Joseph Callahan Obituary

A Memorial celebration honoring the life of Joseph Michael Callahan will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2006, at Tomoka United Methodist Church, of which he was a member, 1000 Old Tomoka Road (386-672-6722), Ormond Beach, with Pastor John Gill and Pastor Sharon Dey officiating. A reception will follow. Family will receive friends prior to the service. Joe died peacefully at home Friday, June 23, 2006. He was born Aug. 7, 1947, in Wilmington, Del., and moved to the Daytona Beach area with his family in 1963. He attended Father Lopez High School and received his A.S. from DBCC. Joe, a successful businessman, worked as a SAMS accredited marine surveyor and yachtbroker with Blue and Gold Yacht Brokerage in Daytona Beach for 13 years. As a hundred ton teacher certified Coast Guard licensed Captain, Joe delivered yachts, ran a treasure diving boat in the Bahamas, and as a dive master, instructed students in the Keys. Joe's interests and hobbies included Gator football, NASCAR, and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle cross country. Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Sherri; adored daughter, Kelly Key (Kevin), Mt. Airy, N.C.; grandchildren, Cory, Adam and Kristen Parker and Evan and Addisen Key; mother, Christine Callahan, Ormond Beach; brothers, James (Fay) Callahan, Galena, Md., and Daniel Callahan, Ormond Beach; sister, Dora Neal (David), Knoxville, Tenn.; nieces; nephews; extended family; and many loving friends. He was predeceased by his son, Joey; brother, Steven; and father, James. Memorial donations suggested to The Joe Callahan Memorial Fund, c/o Hinson Middle School, 1860 N.
